Alex Mercer: Welcome into the Prediction Market HQ: Daily Sports Evening Edition for Monday, January 5th. I’m Alex Mercer, and we have a high-stakes board tonight with massive injury news shifting the lines as we speak. We encourage you to jump in our prediction market app of choice with us; as always, we will be using Polymarket's data to track these movements. Marcus, the window is closing before tip-off. Let’s get into where we stand. Marcus Webb: We are moving fast tonight, Alex. Starting with the morning slate, we have high conviction on the Suns and Rockets Over. That total has steamed up from 221.5 to 224.5 in high-volume markets, but our morning position on the Over 221.5 is currently trading at 59 cents and we are holding firm. With Durant and Booker active and Houston missing Alperen Sengün’s rim protection, the scoreboard should be busy. In Oklahoma City, the Thunder are laying a massive -16.5 against the Hornets. That line is currently trading at 46 cents—implied plus money—but don't let the spread scare you. Charlotte’s backcourt is a ghost town right now. If Shai Gilgeous-Alexander starts hot, this is a 20-point blowout by the half. Hold that position. Now, the big pivot: Nuggets vs. 76ers. Nikola Jokic is officially OUT tonight. The market reacted violently, pushing the spread to -15.5. Our morning pick of 76ers -9.5 at 68 cents is now essentially a "lock" price compared to the current market. If you can still find a line under -12.5 at 60 cents or better, double down. In the NHL, we are holding the Red Wings and Senators Over 5.5, trading at 56 cents. Linus Ullmark is out for Ottawa and Cam Talbot is in for Detroit—that is a recipe for goals. Finally, the Wild vs. Kings. Minnesota has actually moved from a dog to a 52-cent favorite on the moneyline. Our +1.5 spread position is in excellent shape because of the Wild's elite penalty kill. Hold all of these. Alex Mercer: Speed and precision. That’s the morning recap. But the board just opened up some late-breaking opportunities as we head toward the 7:00 PM Eastern lock. We’ve got two new plays and a high-value Dog of the Day. Marcus, let’s start in Los Angeles. Marcus Webb: We’re looking at the Warriors vs. Clippers, tipping off at 10:30 PM ET. We are taking the Warriors -2.5, currently trading at 58 cents. The Clippers are a skeleton crew tonight—no Bradley Beal, no Bogdanovic, no Chris Paul. Kawhi Leonard is playing 40 minutes a night just to keep them competitive, but they have zero depth. The Warriors' bench leads the NBA in scoring at over 42 points per game. As long as Steph Curry’s ankle holds up in warmups, the Warriors' second unit will pull away in the fourth quarter. Moving to the Pacific Northwest, the Jazz face the Blazers at 10:00 PM ET. We are targeting Lauri Markkanen: Points Over 26.5, which is trading at 54 cents. Portland is missing their two best wing defenders in Jerami Grant and Jrue Holiday. With Jazz center Walker Kessler out for the season, Markkanen is the undisputed focal point. He’s averaging nearly 28 a game and dropped 32 on Portland earlier this season. In a game with a massive 241.5 total, the volume will be there for him to clear this easily. Alex Mercer: And finally, the one everyone waits for. This is an active market, so have your exit strategy ready. Marcus, what is the Dog of the Day? Marcus Webb: The Dog of the Day is the Anaheim Ducks Moneyline against the Washington Capitals, trading at 44 cents. As we sit here now, the market is treating Washington like a heavy favorite, but the data says otherwise. Ducks goalie Lukas Dostal is currently leading the league in goals saved above expected, while Washington’s Logan Thompson is starting to regress toward his mean. The Ducks have covered the puck line in 70% of their road games. At 44 cents, the implied probability is way too low for a game that Vegas has pegged as a near pick’em. If you can get this anywhere under 46 cents, take the outright win. Alex Mercer: Let’s recap the Final Portfolio for Monday, January 5th. We are holding the Suns/Rockets Over 221.5, Thunder -16.5, a Double Down on the 76ers -9.5, the Red Wings/Senators Over 5.5, and the Wild +1.5. Our late additions are the Warriors -2.5 and Lauri Markkanen Over 26.5 points. Our Dog of the Day is the Ducks Moneyline at 44 cents. The action starts at 7:00 PM ET with the 76ers and Senators games, so the clock is ticking. Get your positions set now. We will be back tomorrow morning to see where the dust settled.
