**HOST (Alex Mercer):** Welcome back to Prediction Market HQ: Daily Sports, Morning Edition for Saturday, January 31st. We are looking at a massive slate of Saturday hockey and hoops, and if you’re looking to get your bets in early, you’ve come to the right place. We encourage you to jump into Kalshi, Polymarket, or your prediction market app of choice with us; as always, we will be using Polymarket’s data to track where the sharp money is moving. Marcus, it’s a packed "Hockey Saturday" on ABC, but you’ve got your eyes on a matinee in the City of Brotherly Love that the markets might be misreading. **ANALYST (Marcus Webb):** Exactly, Alex. Everyone is talking about the Stadium Series practice down in Florida, but the real Alpha is in Philadelphia. I’ve got my eyes on that Kings/Flyers total. The market is leaning one way, but the data tells a much grittier story. Alex Mercer: We’re going to dive deep into that triple-play in Philly because the Kings and Flyers are kicking off in just a few hours at 12:30 PM ET. Let’s start with the side. The Kings Moneyline is currently trading at 58 cents, implying a 58% win probability. I actually think this is cheap. The Kings bring the league’s 3rd-ranked defense into this one, having allowed only 142 goals all season. Marcus, when you look at the Flyers’ side of the ice, it’s a total disaster right now. Marcus Webb: It’s a goaltending crisis, plain and simple. Samuel Ersson went down with that lower-body injury on Thursday, and now they’re forced to turn back to Dan Vladar, who has been struggling significantly. The Flyers have surrendered 15 goals over their last three games—that’s a 4.67 goals-against average in that span. Meanwhile, the Kings have a league-low 9.2% shooting percentage. They are screaming for positive scoring regression. When an elite defense meets a team that has lost 10 of its last 12, you take the superior unit at 58 cents every time. Alex Mercer: I agree on the side, but let’s look at the Under 5.5, which is trading at 49 cents. This is where it gets interesting. I like the Under because the Kings are missing their captain, Anze Kopitar. He’s the engine of that offense. Without him, and with the Kings' 30th-ranked scoring offense, I don’t see how they suddenly become a track-meet team, even against a weak goalie. Marcus Webb: That’s the sharp play, Alex. The public is split—51% of the volume is on the Over because they see the Flyers' bad defense—but they’re ignoring the "Pace" logic. The Kings play a low-event, neutral-zone-clogging style on the road. Low pace means fewer high-danger opportunities. With both squads lacking offensive continuity, this has "2-1 or 3-1" written all over it. We’re buying that 49% implied probability on the Under 5.5 and betting on a defensive slog. Alex Mercer: Absolutely. The Kings' road defense is ranked 2nd in the NHL for a reason. They travel with their system. We’ll have updated market data on the rest of the Saturday slate in our 6:30 PM ET evening edition, but right now, all eyes are on this 12:30 kickoff. Alex Mercer: Time for it. Dog of the Day. Marcus Webb: We are staying in Philadelphia for the finale. We’re looking at the Kings -1.5 on the puck line. This is currently trading at 29 cents, implying just a 29% probability. This is an active bet. We are buying mispriced probability here, not guaranteeing a win, so have an exit target if the Flyers hang around late. Marcus Webb: Here’s why the value is there: Philadelphia is in a complete defensive collapse. They just got handled 6-3 by Boston on Thursday. The Kings have Adrian Kempe on a five-game point streak, and he is exactly the kind of clinical finisher who exploits a backup goalie like Vladar. If the Kings' 2nd-ranked road defense holds the Flyers to one or two goals, the empty-net potential alone makes the -1.5 puck line at 29 cents a massive value play. The market is overestimating the Flyers' ability to keep this close without Ersson in net. Alex Mercer: Love the logic. To recap: we’re on the Kings Moneyline at 58 cents, the Under 5.5 at 49 cents, and our Dog of the Day is the Kings -1.5 puck line at 29 cents. Catch us tonight at 6:30 PM ET for the evening update on the NBA slate and the late-night NHL games. Before we go, remember: Opinions expressed are for informational purposes only. Bet responsibly.
